So you're here, which means chances are, you saw one of my appeals for volunteers
to pose for a bawdy, nude photograph for Lust and Envy promotional material. Yes, I know this is a shitty, ugly prefab
site. What can I say, I'm a guitarist, not a web geek. If you wanna see a lovely, original site, go here.
The premise for this project is fairly simple: we're trying to raise our profle in
the local music scene and attract large audiences to our shows. Sex sells. And besides, we're "Lust Rock," so it's right on
par with the theme.
Here's the vision: I snap a few pictures, which can be anything from tasteful nudes
to as raunchy a pose as you're willing to do. No clothing allowed, with the sole exception of a L&E t-shirt.
The pictures then get photoshopped to make them look somewhat artistic (generally,
the look of an extraordinarily real painting is the look I'm after here). Then I take the best one, caption it with an appropriate
lyric, and it becomes a flier or poster for an upcoming show. Ideally, I'd like to have four unique pictures of different
people (or couples, or groups) per show (we play approximately once per month). After the show, our fliers are moved to a
yet to come section of our website which requires a valid email addy which we add to our mailing list. Clever, huh?
The ideas I have for pictures thus far mostly involve 'acting out' L&E lyrics.
For instance, we have a lyric that reads, "Lise slammed her hand in the door to get revenge on herself," based on a scene
from The Brothers Karamazov. So we snap a photo of a girl slamming her hand in a door, caption it thusly, and voila.
Sexy, artistic, provocative, etc. As soon as work stops interfering with aspects of my life such as publicity
stunts for my band, I'll put up an ideas page (shitty prefab, of course) detailing some other lines I'd like to use and a
photo I can envision going along with it. To see some examples, click the 'fliers' link to the left. Bonus points
for anybody who volunteers to do any lines from Miss Mary Magdeline's Big Electric Lust Device.
The shoots are mostly TFP, but they can be paid as well, depending upo the nature
of the shoot. In all cases, you get a free CD, show passes, and the unending gratitudte of the band. Plus, you'll
know you did your part to bring the DC scene to national prominence once agaimm.
All that said, if you want to be immortalized on a Lust and Envy flier, email me
at jersey_brian@yahoo.com. Again, I have a boatload of ideas for directions to go in. Chances are
you may have some better ones, and I'd love to hear them.
